Report Introduction
Introduction to the Smart Shots Report
Overview
The Smart Shots Report will appear in the chart as a PDF document. The first page begins with a header containing information about the report and the patient. The rest of the first page is dedicated to the Immunization Forecast Summary which summarizes the patient's status for all supported vaccine series, grouped by the series status. Beginning on the second page is the Vaccine Series Grid which details the dose history for each series as well as doses that are now due or the next dose for those due in the future. Following the Vaccine Series Grid is the Removed Duplicate Entries list. Here you will find any doses that were found on the chart but deemed duplicates, and thus excluded from evaluation.
Capabilities and Limitations of the Smart Shots Report
When using the Smart Shots report, it is important to understand its intentended use and limitations.
- Missing doses on the chart will result in incorrect recommendations.
- Doses with approximated or incorrect dates may result in the that dose or a subsequent dose being evaluated as invalid incorrectly.
- Always validate manually entered doses that are marked as invalid, or manually entered doses that precede an invalid dose, before re-vaccinating.
- Reports are generated the morning of the visit, but the data source used is not real-time.
- Pre-visit immunization registry queries take place 24 hours before the visit and will be reflected in the report.
- Immunization history added to the chart the day of the visit will not be reflected in the report.
- The date is prominently displayed on the report: "As of Month DD, YYYY".
- Any use of the report after this date should be reconciled against the immunization list on the chart to account for any subsequent updates.
- Allergies and contraindications should be reviewed prior to ordering or administered recommended doses.
- Recommendations on the Immunization Forecast Summary are limited to
these
vaccine groups:
- COVID-19
- DTP
- H1N1
- Hep A
- Hep B
- Hib
- HPV
- Influenza
- Meningococcal ACWY
- Meningococcal B
- MMR
- Orthopoxvirus*
- Pneumococcal
- Polio
- Rotavirus
- RSV*
- Varicella
- Zoster*
- Any vaccine doses for other vaccine groups will be listed on the Vaccine Series Grid under "unsupported" and not further evaluation is performed.
- While the report's invalid dose detection has been extensively tested, incorrectly dated chart entries, particularly those entered manually, do occur and can result in incorred invalid dose flagging.
- Doses that were administered in the office or those received from an immunization registry can be assumed accurate. However, an incorrectly entered prior dose could result in the dose being flagged incorrectly.
- The following reminder will be displayed on any "due now" vaccine
recommendations where an invalid dose was detected in the series:
- "Confirm invalid dose(s) before administering".
Report Sections

Section: Removed Duplicate Entries
Any doses on the chart that are evaluated as duplicate will appear in this section and are excluded from evaluation. There are two categories of duplicate: "same vaccine same day" and "evaluated as duplicate".

- Same vaccine, same day. These entries are doses of the same vaccine on the same day, determined by the vaccine code (CVX) associated with the dose. These doses are identified in the "pre-processing" phase of the report and not evaluated by ICE.
- Evaluated as duplicate. These entries are recorded doses of two different vaccines on the same day containing the same antigen. These doses are identified by ICE during the evaluation process.
